Dan Marks Part of the original group of Cesar Gracie students that came to Diablo Barbell in the early years, Dan Marks became a World Class Jiu Jitsu practitioner and instructor. I feel that of all the fighters, grapplers and wrestlers we have had Dan most valued the strength training component as part of being a martial artist. Using our methods as an adjunct to his MMA and jiu jitsu training, Dan had a 400+ squat, mid 300 bench and near 500 lb deadlift. Outstanding numbers for a lightweight fighter competing in the 155 weight class.
He is the first man to receive a Black Belt from both the legendary Cesar Gracie Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy and Jake Shields' American Jiu Jitsu program. At the time of this writing Dan is now a second degree Black Belt in the Gracie system. A Martial artist since the age of 12, Dan also holds a black belt in Kajukenbo as well as extensive training in Muay Thai thru the vaunted Fairtex Academy, and has trained Judo under 7th degree Black Belt Jimmy Tanaka.
As a member of the Cesar Gracie fight team Dan compiled an outstanding professional MMA record of 6-1 while training along side MMA legends and World Champions such as Diablo Alumni Jake Shields, Gilbert Melendez, Gil Castillo and Alex Serdyukov. He has also been a key training partner for other notable MMA stars such as Nick Diaz, Nate Diaz, Dave Terell and Val Ignatov.
Now an instructor of 10+ years Dan has coached multiple World Champions, has trained many NFL players and is currently the Head Instructor at the world famous El Nino Training Center in San Francisco. A distinguishing trait of Dan's as an instructor is his ability to work with all levels of practitioners.
